GUNUNGKIDUL – The spirit of strengthening Indonesia’s maritime sector was once again highlighted during the 2026 Fishermen’s Day celebration held along the southern coast of Gunungkidul, Special Region of Yogyakarta. As a concrete effort to support the welfare of coastal communities, PT Karya Bahari Abadi (KBA) together with CV Sentral Yanmar Prambanan organized a free service program for hundreds of local fishermen.
Initiated by the Indonesian Fishermen Association (HNSI) Gunungkidul in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, the event became a strategic platform for collaboration between local government, industry players, and fishing communities. The celebration also attracted significant public attention with the planned attendance of the Regent of Gunungkidul alongside hundreds of fishermen from various regions.
Through this program, the organizers targeted maintenance services for at least 500 Yamaha outboard engines owned by fishermen. The services provided were comprehensive, ranging from full inspections, oil and spark plug replacements, to cleaning essential engine components. Beyond technical servicing, fishermen also received educational sessions on proper engine maintenance to ensure their equipment remains in optimal condition.
The organizers emphasized that the readiness of production equipment is a key factor in strengthening the fisheries sector. Poorly maintained engines can reduce catch productivity, increase operational costs, and even threaten fishermen’s safety while at sea. Through this initiative, fishermen are expected to operate more safely, efficiently, and productively.
Adding to the excitement of the 2026 Fishermen’s Day celebration, the event also featured creative content competitions and technical skill contests focused on outboard engine maintenance. These initiatives are part of broader efforts to improve the capabilities of traditional fishermen in adapting to technological challenges.
Carrying the theme “Resilient Fishermen, Sustainable Seas, Reviving Economy”, the event highlighted the importance of preserving marine ecosystems as the foundation of long-term maritime economic sustainability. Collaboration between the private sector and fishing communities is expected to become an effective solution in addressing challenges such as extreme weather and limited access to engine maintenance services, while also strengthening the contribution of Indonesia’s marine sector to the national economy.
